Madison Cat Clinic, Inc.Feline Behavior Counseling
Feel free to mention any issues that are of concern. At Madison Cat Clinic we will work with you to help correct behavior issues. First, a thorough medical evaluation needs to be completed because illness often becomes evident when it changes behavior. Two examples: Cats with pain in the bladder will urinate out of the litter box, and cats with high blood pressure or hyperthyroidism may act restless and agitated and be unusually vocal. The extent of the medical workup depends on the nature of the problem and the age of the cats. We may recommend urine and blood tests or x-rays. If no medical problem is detected, a behavioral consultation is completed. This involves providing detailed information regarding the cat's behaviors, living environment, and previous treatments through a written questionaire and meeting with Dr. Walter. After the information is collected, a treatment plan will be constructed. The plan will include environmental modifications. We may also use medications in some cases. The key to success is following the plan and communicating successes and failures to continue helpful techniques while altering those that are not working.
